Hosting Renesas Electronics Taiwan Co., Ltd.

Chairman and President, Mr. Danny Chan of Renesas Electronics Taiwan Co., Ltd., led a managerial team to visit YunTech on December 12th, 2023, signed a memorandum of cooperation with the university, and initiated an industry-academic collaboration project with Prof. Chung-Wen Hung from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Additionally, the company donated 40 sets of the newest microcontroller development kits to Prof. Hung for future use in his courses on MCU and SoC, providing platforms for practice and professional training. Renesas also called at Prof. Hung's laboratory, where they witnessed fruitful research results, including the third-place nationwide work and other award-winning projects from the National College Student Hands-on Project Competition and Exhibition, gold medal-winning projects at international invention expos, and prize-winning works in the Ministry of Education's Digital Signal Processing Creative Design Competition. Following the on-site visit, a panel discussion on thematic topics and collaborative directions took place.

As a leading player in the global microcontroller industry, Renesas Electronics Corporation is a semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with over 20,000 employees worldwide. In recent years, its average annual shipment has exceeded 3.5 billion units, with approximately 50% used in the automotive sector. While Renesas Electronics is among the top five global suppliers of automotive chips, its chips are widely used in industrial, consumer electronics, IoT, healthcare, data centers, and communications infrastructure as well, making the company a landmark in analog, power, SoC, and other products. Renesas Electronics has also a full capacity to independently develop 32-bit general-purpose RISC-V processors for commercial use. Maintaining a long-term cooperation with Renesas, Prof. Hung has been leading a highly productive laboratory engaged in scientific and engineering projects, including industry-academic collaboration initiatives. This time, Renesas provided brand-new RA6T2 microprocessor development kits that are best known for efficient motor and inverter control as well as feature an enhanced CPU and hardware accelerator. These kits can be applied to next-generation high-speed, advanced motor algorithms in home appliances and industrial automation. The infusion of new equipment is expected to enrich the near-industry disciplined training for students in Prof. Hung’s offered courses. We look forward to ever-growing mutual collaboration in hopes of continuing creating high-quality innovative outcomes and fostering a win-win-win situation.
